How It Started

After successfully implementing Clutha NZ’s “Stay a While” campaign earlier in 2024. The Clutha Development team approached The Commute to shoot additional ‘live and work’ content to add to their media library. The footage would then be used as a part of a heart-stirring and attention-grabbing film that would encourage folks from all walks of life to live and work in the Clutha District.

What We Did

From beginning to end, this project was coordinated, written, filmed, produced, and voiced by The Commute’s Founder, Nick McCabe-Schultz. He is also a proud Clutha native who now divides his time between Melbourne and Balclutha.

“This project holds a special place in my heart, as it was essentially a love letter to my hometown and all the areas of the Clutha District that shaped my life. While I now live in Melbourne, I find myself forever connected to Clutha”, says Nick.

In just three days, we captured campaign-quality content at over 13 locations in the District. Chasing cyclists, interviewing business owners, sporting events, prominent landmarks, ATV driving on farms, and so much more. Our primary focus with all footage captured was to ensure we highlighted genuine moments of delight from locals who were kind enough to show us their way of life.

The content was filled with familiar faces, places, and low-key wonders. Filming was centralised around Lawrence, Milton, Waihola, and Balclutha. The shoot featured a range of businesses across the Clutha District, including: Clutha Gold Trail, Catlins Tours, Cross Recreation Centre, Clutha District Council, South Otago Netball, The Prospector Cafe & Accommodation, The Riviera Cinema Balclutha, Te Pou Ō Mata-Au – Clutha District War Memorial & Community Centre, Clutha Health First, Night ‘n Day, Silver Fern Farms, Clutha Vets, Calder Stewart and Milton Hammer Hardware.

The jewel in the crown of this campaign is the “Stay For Good” film, which features all the captured locations and supplementary content sourced from the Clutha NZ media library. In just over 60 seconds, this film creates an encompassing showcase of the region.

The Script

In the distant horizon as the sun sets to blue,
A haven awaits, if you’re ready to move.
Wide open wonders where tamariki can play.
Parks full of laughter, you can waste a whole day
Waterfalls that whisper secrets so sweet,
explore every nook, and each tranquil retreat.
Pedal through trails where gold scenery glows,
and sweat with your team before the umpire blows.
Cozy cafés and so much to taste,
you want another scoop, we can see it on your face
Where ever you turn a jobs to be done.
Be it on the land or remote connection
A place for each talent, and a talent for each place.
You’re free to be you, whatever passion you chase
Clutha’s call is a siren hum.
Pack your things, stay for good. We’re glad that you’ve come.
